Email Searches
Note: TalentHook is integrated with Windows Search to allow you to quickly and easily retrieve candidates from email attachments stored in Microsoft Outlook. Windows Search is the recommended desktop search solution for use with TalentHook. Click here to install Windows Search. In addition to Windows Search, TalentHook also supports email searches via Google Desktop. If you want to use Google Desktop instead of Windows Search, please follow the instructions below. Otherwise, click here for information about installing Windows Search.
Installation Instructions
Before TalentHook can search email attachments, you will need to install Google Desktop and the Outlook Plugin.
Google Desktop
Google Desktop is a free application provided by Google. This application will currently run on Windows XP or Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher). You will need 1 GB of free hard disk space, 128 MB RAM, and a 400 MHz or faster processor. Google Desktop will need to be installed and running before you can properly install the TalentHook Outlook plugin.

- Go to the download page to download or learn more about Google Desktop.

Outlook Plugin
This plugin will connect Microsoft Outlook to Google Desktop to allow your email attachments to be indexed by Google Desktop. Once you have Google Desktop running, you need to reinstall TalentHook using the latest installation package to properly set up the Outlook Plugin. You will need to shutdown Microsoft Outlook before installing the plugin.
- Download
- Download TalentHook's latest install package. The Outlook Plugin is included and will be installed automatically if Google Desktop has already been installed.

Using the Plugin
The Outlook plugin will only be able to work while Outlook is open. However, since indexing files can be a resource intense operation, the Outlook plugin will not attempt to do any work while you are actually working inside of Outlook. The plugin will resume the work of indexing your email attachments once you start working in another application. This is necessary so as to not slow you down while you are working within Outlook.
When the plugin is initially installed, it may take several hours before all of your email attachments have been indexed. The amount of time required will depend upon several factors: how many emails you have, how long Outlook is allowed to remain idle, and the speed of your computer. You can view the status of the indexing operation by moving your mouse over the plugin's tasktray icon and waiting for the popup text to appear.
If you right mouse-click the tasktray icon, you will also get a pop-up menu that gives you some control over the behavior of the plugin. The tasktray icon for the plugin is the second icon from the left in the image below (the icon containing a paperclip in the lower right corner).
